Danny Boyle Wants His Own ‘Frankenstein’

Now let’s see. How many versions of “Frankenstein” will this make? Danny Boyle, the director of the Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire” is to direct a stage adaptation of “Frankenstein,” based on the novel by Mary Shelley, The Guardian reported.
Nicholas Hytner, the director of the National Theater in London, said that Mr. Boyle would make his debut at the theater later this year. Mr. Hytner said that Mr. Boyle, who began his career at London’s Royal Court and the Royal Shakespeare Company, was returning to his first love after film “distracted” him for a while. (He also directed “Trainspotting.”) “Danny first talked about this eight years ago and it has taken him eight years,” Mr. Hytner said of Mr. Boyle’s decision to direct the playwright Nick Dear’s new adaptation of “Frankenstein.” (Boris Karloff, above, starred in the 1931 film adaptation.) It will be a “large-scale and theatrically and visually ambitious stage production,” Mr. Hytner said.
