Singapore play heads to Beijing

A LOCAL play, which captured imaginations of sold-out audiences in Singapore, will present its third run in China.
The Crab Flower Club, a highly acclaimed production by Toy Factory's artistic director Goh Boon Teck, will be advancing beyond the shores of Singapore to Beijing in October.
The production, which was originally written in English, has been translated into Mandarin and is part of the "Splendid Asia" theme in the biennial China International Theatre Festival held next month.
Having captivated both the media and the public with its stellar cast, script, inspiring music, lavish set and costumes, The Crab Flower Club was restaged here in August 2009 due to popular demand.
Now, for three nights only, the play will be staged at the Oriental Pioneer Theatre in Beijing.
The Crab Flower Club is based on poems in Cao Xue Qin's masterpiece, Dream of the Red Chamber.
Set in a noble household in the Qing dynasty, five sisters gather on the eve of their father's 60th birthday to prepare a complex feast of crabs and also to set up an all-women poetry club.
The Beijing cast features Leanne Ong, Koh Wan Ching, Jo Kwek, Liow Shi Suen and Patricia Toh.
