Pune University students will star at Kolkata theatre festival

A group of 17 students from the Performing Arts Department of the University of Pune (UoP) have been invited to an international theatre festival, Sudrak Utsav, to be held in Kolkata on October 9.

The team will be performing 'Hiroshima', a play written by Kolkata-based theatre director and dramatist, Badal Sarkar. The play has been directed by scripted and directed by Vijay Kenkre.
The theatre fest, which is an annual event, is being organised by Sudrak, a well-known theatre group from Kolkata. Shubhangi Bahulikar, head, performing arts department said, “It is a matter of great honour for us that our students will be going for the festival. They have been practising hard for the past few months for the fest and I am sure they are going to put up a good show.”
The play by the university team was noticed by the organisers of the fest when they came to the city. “We had put up a performance for the organisers and they had appreciated the play then. Later, we got the invitation to be a part of the festival. It will be a one-day festival where teams from across the country as well as abroad will be participating,” added Bahulikar.
