European avant-garde in Romanian theatre festival

"In designing the program, I tried to fight the cliches regarding theatre and to undermine the resistance to what is new that we often feel in Romanian theatre," the festival's artistic director Cristina Modreanu told a press conference.
As more and more foreign directors come to Romania to work with local theatre companies, Germany's Langhoff will present Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure," featuring the Hungarian State Theatre of the Transylvanian city of Cluj.
The 20th edition of the National Theatre Festival will also showcast a premiere from Argentinian director Garcia, "Dogs not Allowed," with the National theatre Mihai Eminescu of the western city of Timisoara.
The list of innovative guests includes Krzysztof Warlikowski from Poland, Romeo Castellucci from Italy and Billy Cowie from the United Kingdom.
The 20th edition also celebrates Romanian directors, such as Radu Afrim, praised by the international press at the 2008 Off Avignon festival, and Silviu Purcarete, who is presenting "Exit the King" by Eugene Ionesco.
