Children's Theater Festival in Cairo

“Through the financial year, organizations present their project, which is supervised by advisory boards. They score points, and if the result is over 65%, they are eligible to enter the festival,” said Fatima Farhat, director of Child Culture in the Cultural Palaces Body.
A variety of plays are in the festival, including puppet shows and “Sinbad the Sailor,” inspired by “A Thousand and One Nights,”
“One of the most important measurements of success is the way the theatre/stage communicates the story to the young audience. That is dependent on the director and creator to communicate the message,” said Dr. Nisrine al-Baghdadi, member of the jury.
The Children’s Theatre Festival is seen as an opportunity to shed light on stage art, which must compete with cinema and its highly sophisticated technology, the internet and video games.
“The hand puppet contributes to the concept of audience interaction. The stage has always been about sharing feelings with the viewers. This is the theatre’s success secret,” said Naser al-Tawab, director of “Maarouf in the sea of letters” play.
Last year’s festival was organized in El-Fayum district. Holding the festival in Egypt’s provinces allows people who live outside the capital to experience the magic of the stage.
The festival closes on September 16.
