Classical Greek Theatre Festival

Classical Greek Theatre Festival

The ancient Greeks were the first to use costumes, sets and actors to tell a story. Ever since, theater has been one of the most enjoyed forms of art.

For 40 years, the University of Utah honored this tradition through the annual Classical Greek Theatre Festival. This year, however, the torch has been passed to Westminster College.
Westminster will kick off the festival with a performance of Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. Written between 414 and 412 B.C., this play has truly stood the test of time and is considered one of the most exciting and romantic of Greek tragedies. The festival continues with performances at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater, Brigham Young University and Weber State University. A 30-minute lecture will precede all performances. (Lexie Levitt)
