Theatre fest for differently abled opens in Sharjah

Under the patronage of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the second edition of the Theatre Festival for Disabled in the GCC Countries kicked off at the Sharjah Cultural Palace on Friday.
The festival, which was attended by Sharjah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, will continue till December 15.
The festival is organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs in co-operation with the Executive Office of the GCC Council of Ministers of Social Affairs and the UAE Theatrical Association.
Participating in this festival are 7 theatrical troupes, which are presenting their shows at Sharjah Cultural Palace and Sharjah Institute of Theatrical Arts.
Expressing her pride of the existence of specialist theatrical troupes for the disabled, Mariam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, said the theatrical festival is a significant indicator of the GCC achievements in the field of disability and social merging policies.
She called on disabled individuals to seize this opportunity to participate ambitiously in the process of building the nation based on the fact that disability is a synonym of strong will associated with hope, ambition and excellence. A festival jury has been formed from Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
