Omani theatre festival gets under way

The fourth round of the Omani Theatre Festival opened under the auspices of HE Mohammed Bin Salim Al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, on Monday at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

It was held in the presence of a number of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, officials, artists and Omani theatre movement activists and other guests.
Dr Abdul Karim Bin Ali Jawad, Chairman of the Festival, delivered the inaugural speech on behalf of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture where he welcomed the attendees and said that the Ministry of Heritage and Culture is keen to organise this local festival in order to contribute in developing the theatre movement.
On the festival’s activities, he said the festival includes eight theatre shows by the civil teams nominated by specialised art committees. The shows will be followed by interactive sessions. It will also include workshops on acting and play directing and media briefings.
Speaking to Oman Tribune, actor Ali Awad Al Busaidi expressed his happiness for being honoured at the festival in front of elite gathering for his contribution in developing the theatre movement in the Sultanate.
Various Arab and international media are in town to cover the event, which the Sultanate hosts every two years.
