6th Dhaka University Theatre Festival

Two plays -- “A Slight Ache” and “Genius and Culture” -- were staged on the second day (January 23) of the ongoing 6th Dhaka University Central Theatre Festival. The Department of Theatre, DU has organised the festival that features plays produced by the department as well as invited troupes from Rajshahi University and Jahangirnagar University. The festival is being held at TSC Auditorium and at Natmandal.
Harold Pinter's tragicomic “A Slight Ache” has been translated by Nila Saha and directed by Syeda Iffat Ara. The story zooms in on a married couple's -- Edward and Flora -- dreams and desires, highlighting mostly the husband's fears of the unknown.
Ishtiaque Khan Pathan and Afreen Huda played Edward and Flora respectively. Fazlur Rahman played the Matchseller. Sanjeeb Kumar Dey designed the play.
Italian artist-playwright Umberto Boccioni's “Genius and Culture” is a satire of the contemporary society. Translated by Rubayet Ahmed, the play has been directed by Mahjabin Islam.
Nafisa Parvin and Tanvir Nahid Khan played the artist and the critic respectively. Aiswarja Azad played the artist's muse. Silviya Nawrin designed the play.
Today, a troupe from Comilla will stage Muharram-er Jari Gaan, an indigenous performing art form practiced largely in the eastern part of the country. The show will be held at Natmandal auditorium at 6:30pm.
