“Girls from the Gardens of Carpet” to Stage in China Puppet Festival

“Girls from the Gardens of Carpet”, which is directed by Afsaneh Zamani, will be performed in the first puppet show festival in China on May 28 to June 4.
Zamani told Iran Theater website this was the first edition of the festival, which was set to be held on the sideline of the 21st UNIMA Congress & International Puppet Festival in Chengdu, China.
About 60 groups, Zamani said, were going to take part in the festival, meaning representatives from five continents Africa America, Asia, Europe and Oceania would be present in the event.
“The group is completely ready for the festival now and is going to have three performances,” she said, adding that in addition to the festival, the Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA) has organized exhibition and educational workshops too.
Written by noted Iranian dramatist Hengameh Mofid, “Girls from the Gardens of Carpet” tells of a carpet-weaving girl who loses her carpet’s design. Therefore she enters the fantasy world of rugs. She introduces a carpet design whenever enters a new garden in search of her lost design.
Gazal Eskandarnejad, Nasim Amirkhosrow, Negar Mirfakhraei, Somayeh Naderi, Hamid Shokoohi, Fatemeh Zoghi, Zahra Nazeri and Marzieh Sarmashghi are puppeteers.
Mohsen Imankhani and Akram Asghari are designed and made the puppets. Sina Yeylagh Baygi is set designer. Abdollah Aashneshani is the composer. Payman Shariatie is production director and assistant director. Hengame Sazesh is set director and assistant of set designer.
