Hamid Samandarin Dies

Hamid Samandarian, the veteran Iran’s theater artist and director, passed away on July 12.

Samandarian, 81, died at his home after a period of sickness, Iran Theater website reported.
Born in 1931 in Tehran, Samandarian started his theater career when he was studying at high school.
He received theater and acting education from Hossein Kheirkhah, Shabaviz and Nosrat Karimi. Master Abdolhossein Noushin managed the classes.
After his high school graduation, Samandarian went to Europe to study theater academically for six years. He was the student of Edward Marx, learning the basics of direction and acting from him. He started professional theater in Germany later.
He returned Iran later upon invitation of Dramatic Arts Center and immediately directed “No Exit” by Jean-Paul Sartre in Nobonyad Auditorium.
Samandarian set up Dramatic Arts High School with the cooperation of Dr Mehdi Foroughi. The school was affiliated to Dramatic Arts Center.
Samandarin established the Theater Faculty of Tehran University with the cooperation of Dr Mehdi Namdar and upon an invitation by Houshang, Dr Berkeshli. He continued teaching at Tehran University and country’s other theater universities.
In 1994, Samandarian set up private acting and direction centers where many students studied and joined the country’s theater circle.
He directed many dramas including Old Lady’s Visit, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Marriage of Mr. Mississippi, The Seagull, Rhinoceros and …  
Samandarian translated many dramas throughout his career too.
The funeral will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Iran Artists Forum.
