Message of Director General of Dramatic Arts Center on Journalist Day

In his message on the occasion, Mr Ashena says:
The media are the fourth column of each political system which has heavy responsibility. The media which are as important as constitution holds a heavy responsibility. But why the media are called the fourth column and what are their functions? The media plays a unique role in institutionalization of law, respecting and practicing the constitution and supervising it. To institutionalize, deepen and broaden political participation and oversee performance of officials, media also play a valuable role. Media are the watchful eyes and talking tongues of people. The column occupies such an important status which should be aware of its importance first to preserve its status, dignity and respect justice and fair coverage. They must respect the human dignity too. They must be accurate and fast in covering the news. They must respect other’s views too and criticize other’s opinion fairly and complement their fair criticisms with constructive proposal. They must reflect strong points and achievements of the regime and officials as well as problems and woes afflicting the society. They must strengthen self-esteem and confidence and enhance the spirit of hope among the people in the society.
August 17 – the day Iranian journalist Saremi was martyred in Afghanistan – is celebrated in the country as the National Journalist Day.
