Brest to host Belaya Vezha2012 theater festival 7-14 September
The 17th international theater festival Belaya Vezha 2012. Classics Plus will take place in Brest on 7-14 September. Best classics in traditional and innovative interpretations will be presented by 26 theater companies from 11 countries, director of the festival Alexander Kozak told a press conference on 30 August.
Partaking in the festival will be drama, puppet, poetic, street and music theaters from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Iran, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia and Japan.
Brest residents and guests will see plays in eight languages – Azerbaijani, Armenian, Belarusian, Komi, Russian, Polish, Farsi, and Ukrainian.
The week of festivities will open with the Woe from Wit play by the Gorky National Academic Drama Theater on 7 September. Performances will be conducted on five venues including the Big and Small Halls of the Brest Academic Drama Theater, the Oblast social and cultural center, Lenina Square.
Traditionally Lenin’s Square will host a street performance. This time it will be “Macbeth, who is that bloodied man?” by Biuro Podrozy Teatr from Poznan, Poland.
According to Alexander Kozak, works of Belarusian theater companies will be widely represented at the 17th Brest Theater Festival. The playbill features the Gorky National Academic Drama Theater, Belarusian One-Actor Poetic Theater Znich, and also the musical theater Rada (Grodno), Mogilev Regional Drama Theater, Center for Visual and Performing Arts (Minsk jointly with the Polish Institute in Minsk and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute), and the Brest Academic Drama Theater.
The festival will conclude with the performance Masquerade by Moscow Drama Theater on Perovskaya.
The Annual International Theater Festival Belaya Vezha in Brest was first held in 1996. It aims to present the art of national theaters that develop classical theatrical traditions and look for modern means of theatrical expression. For big-name directors and actors, musicians and artists, and also young talents the Brest festival is an excellent opportunity to present their best works.
For sixteen years the festival has gained recognition in the international festival community. During this time, the festival has welcomed theater companies from 53 countries. The organizers of the festival are the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, the Culture Ministry, and the Brest Academic Drama Theater.
