National Theater Festival Kicked off in Camagüey

Attended by the Minister of Culture Rafael Bernal and the foremost political and governmental authorities in the province, the 14th edition of the National Theater Festival was set up at Camagüey’s Principal Theater on Friday, underway until September 15.

In his opening speech, the head of the Festival Freddy Núñez Estenoz, said that “the theatre workers all over Cuba have brought their metaphors to Camagüey, the host city of this special stage feast”.
The opening artistic show banked on the special performance of the Camagua Folkloric Group - and after the official inauguration, the first performance was in charge of comedians Kike Quiñones and the group Pagola la Paga with the musical comedy show “Reír es cosa muy seria” (Laughing is a very serious thing).
The proposal by a group of well-known actors of the Humour Promotion Center will be presented all weekend long and on Monday at Camagüey’s most important and biggest theater, always at nine o’clock in the evening.
On Saturday, there will be theoretical events at the Cultural Management Center, where they will display the exhibit “Siluetas en la historia, artesanía del corte” by artist Nieves Laferté, who will give a lecture on stage image.
The 14th edition of the National Theater Festival Camagüey 2012, set up on Friday, will be offering 29 plays, whose strict selection is due to show a synthesis of the Cuban reality through an artistic sector with backgrounds at the dawn of humanity.
An expert committee headed by professor and actress Corina Mestre selected the plays that will take the stage out of some 90 proposals in a haul of Cuba.
The Festival includes also a panel relative to the late Virgilio Piñera, one of the most outstanding Cuban playwrights, who at a time in his life lived in Camagüey and to whom the current edition is dedicated.
