International Theatre Festival begins today in Thrissur

The 5th edition of International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK) kick starts today at the open-air stage of Sangeeta Nataka Academy in Thrissur as K C Joseph, Minister for Culture, Rural Development and Planning, inaugurate the ceremony.

The newly constructed open-air theatre named "Vanajyotsna" and black-box theatre for performing experimental dramas are all set to stage the intercultural theatre celebration. The inaugural show will be "Hamlet Machine", by La Mort Theatre from Poland, at Regional Theatre. In regional language category Malayalam drama "Uthuppante Kinar" will be staged at the Town Hall.

The inauguration ceremony will be followed by cultural programs of Ability Unlimited, a Delhi based differently-abled performers.

The festival, which the organizers assures to be a treat to eyes and heart, will showcase 40 performances in five different categories - international, national, regional, solo and traditional.

Various theatres from Romania, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Poland, Norway, Italy, France, Denmark, Britain, Catalonia, Spain and America will perform at the festival scheduled to take place from 15th to 22nd January. Sangeeta Nataka Academy’s award winning dramas will also be staged at the fifth edition of ITFok.

A daily workshop from 7am to 9am for 25 selected theatre artists has also been planned. The delegates can interact with directors through the interactive session, "Mukha-Mukham".
