GOD OF CARNAGE

In collaboration with the Gozo Culture and Information Office (Ministry for Gozo), the innovative drama group The Gozo Creative Theatre Club is set to stage the so called “comedy of manners” God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza.

This play explores different facets of marriage and life as well as the kind of modern parenting which refuses to see faults in its own offspring. The story involves a playground scuffle between two eleven-year old boys which brings together two sets of parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. Despite the best attempts at courtesy and respect, hard truths, insecurities and tensions emerge leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principals in tatters resulting in an evening of total chaos.
The cast features Darren Muscat as Alan Raleigh, Marlene Saliba as Annette Raleigh, Jamie Camilleri as Michael Novak and Sharona Refalo as Veronica Novak. Under the direction of George Mizzi, the Gozo Creative Theatre Club’s director, the audience will experience a dark voyeuristic pleasure watching the verbal battle which unfolds between these characters despite their diplomatic intentions. The male members of the cast are also involved backstage as Darren Muscat is responsible for the technical design and sound is by Jamie Camilleri. The lighting will be provided by Michael Bugeja.
The setting for this performance is the St Ursula Hall, Citadel Centre for Culture and Arts, Citadel, Victoria, Gozo on Friday 22nd February at 8.30pm and Sunday 24th February 2013 5.30pm. Entrance is free. The seating will be on a first come first served basis.
