Today Theater and Philosophy, each belongs to a different sector of the human's activity. After monitoring their common root, this article aims to indicate their potential cooperation.
Rational thought (Logos) was born when mythical thought (Mythos) was not able to respond to the human questions any more. As a consequence, rite lost its function and thought got fragmentized into different segments. Therefore, as branches of thought, theater and philosophy each followed their own way.
Generally it is a mistake to attribute a particular type of theater as a philosophical theater. As a matter of fact since theater seeks to portray humankind and his relationships, it can constantly be considered a philosophical exploration. But specifically, once a play deals with a philosophical text, it can help expand the philosophic audience. Meanwhile, as philosophy bears a dialectic nature, it enriches the play with an exclusive potentiality and developing messages; ones which other media are deprived of.
