'Hamlet according to Horatio' by Asghar Nouri, a new adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, has participated in Bunte Buhne 2013 festival.
"'Hamlet according to Horatio' will go on stage on November 29 at Fellbach, Germany." Asghar Nouri, director of the play said in an interview with Iran Theatre." Last year, the play performed at Shakespeare Festival in France. Being well received by the audience, the theatre group was invited by the secretary of Bunte Buhne theatre festival to participate at the event." Nouri added.
Seconds before his unavoidable death, Hamlet asks his companion Horatio to let people know the truth by telling them the true story of Hamlet. To do so, Horatio, accompanied by his wife Desdemona, leaves the town for a journey around the world and Tehran is one of their destinations.
"They are in Iran, so the 'Naghali' and 'Parde-khani', traditional Iranian performing styles, have been choosen for storytelling. Generally speaking, 'Hamlet according to Horatio' is a parody of Shakespeare's drama in an Iranian storytelling form." Nouri explained.
Nouri went on to say that English, Persian, French and Italian are the languages that are spoken by the characters through the performance and the music is Iran's classic music played by the performers themselves, on the stage.
'Hamlet according to Horatio' is a production of Iranian theatre group 'Theatre 88' and the cast includes Asghar Piran (Horatio) and Morvarid Ramezani (Desdemona).
