Freiburg journey of “1+1” according to “Omid Niaz”

Freiburg journey of “1+1” according to “Omid Niaz”

“1+1”, an Iranian-Italian joint art work, directed by Omid Niaz and Guglielmo Papa, after performance in Venice, left the city for Germany’s Freiburg.

“Omid Niaz” told Iran Theatre website, about his trip to Italy’s Venice and Germany’s Freiburg and the performance of “1+1” in these two cities:
“We left Italy for Germany, in two groups. Guglielmo Papa and Tiziano Popoli (music composer and pianist), went by their private cars because they had to take with them, our needed accessories like two suitcases and some wood for the floor to be used in the performance. Another group including me and Mahdi Farshidi Sepehr, left Italy for Frankfort by airplane, and from there, went on train to Freiburg.
Finally, we met Guglielmo Papa and Tiziano Popoli, at the morning on October 13th in Freiburg’s Hotel Nevada. There we were warmly received by Hubertus (“Marienbad theatre” manager) and his wife. It was rainy and almost cold. After a short rest, we went to Marienbad Theatre.
The same day, at four pm, lighting and sound design was done carefully and after two hours of exercise, we went to a restaurant to have dinner.
After dinner, we talked about Iran-Italy theatre and then we took part in a news conference. Some Freiburg’s newspaper reporters were present there. They asked several questions; among them ware questions about how “1+1” formed and the future plans of the theatre group.
The next day, October 14, 2013, “1+1” went on stage at Marienbad for two times; once in the morning and once in the evening. The morning performance was for students aged 13 and above. The evening performance was for invitees and the public. Both of the performances received well by the audiences.
Our last performance was on 15th of October, at 4 pm. Before that, we took part in a welcome ceremony arranged by Freiburg’s mayor and cultural association members.
Freiburg’s Marienbad Theatre Hall, with 130 seats, was a very professional theater hall, with a complete lighting and sound equipments. The stage was changeable.
At the last performance, all seats were filled. At the end, the audiences applauded for more than a minute. Then the Marienbad officials thanked the group and after that a Q&A session was held.
It was surprising, knowing that the modern and equipped Marienbad Theatre Hall has been built in a place which has been a pool about 45 years ago. The news coverage of “1+1” performance in Freiburg was so great.  It was so interesting that the last day morning at hotel Nevada, one of most largest hotels of Freiburg, everyone was talking about “1+1” and its extension.
On October 16, we left Freiburg for Frankfurt to travel to Iran. Our Italian colleagues returned to their country, Italy.
