Performance of A Play Against Racism in Tehran Puppet Theatre Festival

Rasoul Najafian will perform “Zal and Symorgh” play based on a story of Ferdowsi Shahnameh Epopee as a work against racism in Tehran Puppet Theatre Festival-Mobarak.

Iran Theater- This veteran artist explains: “Story of Zal and Symorgh” is one of the oldest texts of anti-racism and the reason of my chose was because of anti-human catastrophes which are happening in the world.”

 “Zal and Symorgh” is one of the stories of Shahnameh, the great epopee of Ferdowsi, the great Iranian poet who had composed it thousand years ago. In this story after Sam’s wife- one of the commanders of Systan- gave birth an albino son, he called him ominous and ordered to leave him on a mountain. Rasoul Najafian with mentioning to this issue that the story of “Zal and Symorgh” is appropriate for children and young adults and avoid them from racism or judging people based on their apparent characteristics. He continued: “based on the ask of puppet theatre festival our play have been prepared in one of the south regions of Tehran in Yaft Abad which is very poor local, it means from 100 artist applicants in this point, almost 50 of them were chosen for performance of its play.”

the theatre director added with point to the difficulty of performance of this play: “the difficulty of performing one of the Shahnameh’s stories is that we will do it with some people that some of them never have seen a theatre.”

As he said, while the play has number of actors, has a 30-person group of musicians and players and they are entirely are 100 artists.

 “Zal and Symorgh” designed; written and directed by Rasoul Najafian will be performed. He also is the narrator of this play and he profits of rounding-masks, chorus, and mask-puppets in its performance.
