Farman Ara: Sir Thomas More Sacrifices Himself for His Principles and Beliefs

Bahman Farman Ara, Introduces “A Man For All Seasons” written by Robert Bolt as a piece about law and principles.

Iran Theatre- The famous Iranian director that is performing his first theatre in Vahdat Hall talked about “A Man For All Seasons”: “I think the last words of Sir Thomas More is the base of the play that :”My conscious is before my king”. Because when politician of a society deny their conscious for the benefit of the country, the country goes fast to rebel.”

He emphasizes: “Sir Thomas More is a man of principle. It means that he obey them until his death and finally for them he has been executed.”

Farman Ara who directed his first theatre experience compared working in cinema and theatre and explained: “I am of those people who like to have control on everything because I believe that the cinema director is almighty. Therefore, theatre is my nightmare; because when the curtains go up everything is out of your control. Theatre is the land of actor while the cinema is director’s one.”

Bahman Farman Ara, 73 years director of Iranian cinema who made films like “Shazde Ehtejab”, “Long Shadows of the Wind”, “Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmine”, “A House on Water”, “A Teensy Kiss”, and “A Familiar Soil”.

He has had cooperated in 80s in USA with artists and filmmakers like John Schlesinger, Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Steven Frazer, …
