Director of “Déjà vu”: Concern of Deleting Women from History and Myth Caused to Direct the Play

Iran Theatre- Neda Shahrokhi who directed “Déjà vu” play in Aav Theatre Hall these days pointed to the process of writing and directing the play and said: “Two years ago I practiced a play with my students. In that play several women of Iranian Literature were present who meet each other in a place. In that time I was reading a theory of Esthee Baj that absorbed me and made the concern for me.”

“In philosophy, politics or history most of things are related to men. When Marks speaks about labors he means men not women because they have gender specialties and they are in minority or when we talk about India’s independence you just hear the name of Gandhi while there were many women who fought and lost their life; women from labor and pastoral class not intellectual ones who never are mentioned. This subject was always my concern so I decided to talk about Iranian women and their role in history and myth. I was working on this text with Kioumarth Ghanbari and practiced on it for four months but it wasn’t performed until this year that finally with Ayat Dowlatshah and some other actors we performed it ”. She added

Neda Shahrokhi in her interview with Iran Theatre noted that the style of the theatre is “Magic Realism” and said: “Magic Realistic works are dependant to audio-visual devices. In this play we tried to create the atmosphere with fewest mechanical techniques. In the play there is no special light and decoration, the form is based on that idea.”

“Déjà vu” written by Ayat Dowlatshah, directed by Neda Shahrokhi and acting of Neval Sharifi, Mitra Gorji, Sepideh Eidi and Morteza Youneszadeh is performing from 9 to 29th November in Aav Theatre Hall.
