Modern Iranian Narrative of A Greek Myth

“Water, Mirror and Effect of Pygmalion” based on a myth of ancient Greece is performed in Master Entezami Theatre Hall of House of Iranian Artists in style of a modern Iranian story.
Iran Theatre- Amir Ahmad Ghazvini who wrote and directed “Water, Mirror and Effect of Pygmalion” pointed to forming the play based on Greek myths and said: “Myth of Pygmalion is about a sculptor who stays away from love, works alone and makes statues. After a while the sculptor falls in love of one of his statue as much as the statue is changed to be man by Goddess Aphrodite. In this story, there is a painter instead of sculptor who lives with his wife. The story is told in contemporary age and there is no sign of that Greek myth.”
“I think it is good to use these kinds of myths and have personal take from a storyline to narrate it in our time. Undoubtedly, this process is more interesting and today audience can communicate with it more because the myth is happened in the atmosphere more liked to his life.” He added.
This theatre director explains about the performing style of the play: “The story and the vents of our play are happened in a realistic atmosphere. I tried to make it realistic with paying attention to details and format of relationships between characters but also I put some events as distance among these realistic atmospheres. With putting these distances we made it the situation that an audience be far from realistic taste of the play.”
