Seyed Saeed Hashemzadeh: In “Dead Horse” We Changed Real World of Albert Camus’s “The Misunderstanding” to Mental One

Seyed Saeed Hashemzadeh believes that if you want to work classic text which has regular storyline, you have to have new look to them.

Seyed Saeed Hashemzadeh who directed “Dead Horse” in Aav Theatre Hall said that: “The play is based on Albert Camus’s “The Misunderstanding” (Le Malentendu) which was performed in different halls and several TV films were made based on it.”

“In this work, base and main storyline was remained, only the linear narrative of “Misunderstanding” was changed. Now the text became more mental and subjective.” He continued.

Hashemzadeh pointed to necessity of changing the play and added: “We changed time and place structure and took it to the mind of Marta (Main Character). In fact, we did psychoanalysis and show her mind, imagine and imaginations, so we got distance from realistic world of the text.”

“For working on the text which has linear classic narrative we should have a new look. In adaptation, having this look can be achieved by different ways, also updating, reaching to collage structure, or deleting and adding characters,…and we tried to be close to the mental world of Marta which was not far from our society and those who live with some nonsense imaginations. “The director said.

Hashemzadeh talked about styles of performing “Dead Horse” and said: “Our performing styles are based on performing elements of Post-Modern Theatre. In some points we paid attention to directing. All the elements of the scene are moving. No scene is cut. Also, the work is very dependant of gesture which is related to Modern Theatre.”

“Dead Horse” directed by Saeed Hashemzadeh and acting of Nona Naysi, Rashid Aghayi, Saharnaz Abbaszadeh, Yasaman Mirzayi, Neda Asghari, and Marziyeh Shater Tousi is being performed in Aav Theatre Hall from 2nd to  21st December.
