Loyal Performance of McDonagh’s Last Work by An Iranian Director

Iranian young director of “A Behanding in Spokane” the last play of Martin Mcdonagh believes that the main specialty of his works is the narrow line between comedy and darkness which was effective for audience too.
Iran Theatre- “A Behanding in Spokane” directed by Danial Khojasteh will be staged in Iranian House of Artists from January 1st. The play is the 3rd experience of the director and the 1st public performance. The young director who he translated the McDonagh’s text to Persian language talked about his likeness to McDonagh’s works: “There is madness in McDonagh’s woks which I like it too much. Characters of McDonagh are not normal people. He chooses people with different characteristics to talk about human problems. People who are special or even disable which make the fascination of his works.”
“In order to my interest to McDonagh’s works I translated most of his works but I hadn’t opportunity of publication. As I’m an actor I translated the play as comfortable for actors.” Khojasteh added.
“A Behanding in Spokane” after “Pillowman” directed by Mohammad Yaghoubi and “Beauty Queen of Leenane” directed by Homayoun Ghanizadeh is the 3rd play of the English playwright which has a public show in Tehran. After warm welcoming of “Pillowman” and its translation there are some other books translated to Persian were published.
“In works which were performed in Iran from McDonagh’s works, personal take of directors was obvious and in fact there was a heavy dramaturge on them. In this play I tried to be loyal to his work and introduce the new writer to the audience.” He added.
Performance of “A Behanding in Spokane” will be continued until Januaru 21st in House of Iranian Artists.
