Bologna to Host Three Iranian Plays
A festival -- Cuore Di Persian (Iranian Heart) –will take place in Teatri di Vita in Italy’s Bologna from June 29 to July 10.
The annual cultural and artistic event is devoted to Iran this summer where three Iranian plays to go on stage.
The main theme of the plays, which are staged in the festival, is generally about adaptation of classic plays, immigration, war and other incidents in the Middle East.
The Teatri di Vita will host three Iranian plays, which are directed by Reza Servati, Zahra Sabri and Arash Abbasi, this summer.
The event is aimed at making the Italian audience familiar with the works of countries who have rich cinema and theater culture. The festival is exclusively devoted to Iran for the first time.
“A Separation” by Asghar Farhadi and “Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time” will be screened too. The former’s successes include Oscars, Golden Globe and Berlin International Film Festival’s Golden Bear.
A photo exhibition of works by Tahmineh Monzavi from Iran and Italian photographers David Palmisano and Manuela Marchetti will be held. Music performances by Iranian bands and workshops on Persian literature and myths are organized too.
Mr Servati will stage “Macbeth”, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, on July 5-6. Morteza Esmail-Kashi, Asghar Piran, Behrouz Kazemi, Navvab Soraya and Alireza Khosrojerdi will play at the drama which is produced by Noreddin Heydari.
This is the second international presence of “Macbeth” after Saint Petersburg’s The Rainbow, International Theater Festival. The drama won the Russia Association of Theater Critics award at the festival in May.
“Count to One” by Ms Sabri is inspired by Iranian poet Omar Khayam’s quatrains. It tells the story of three soldiers. The actors will show the audience that the man comes from the soil and ends as a soil and could take nothing with themselves to the grave.
Mehdi Shahpiri, Hossein Divandari and Reza Bahrami play in the drama while Behrang Abbaspour is the instrument player and composer of the play. Saeedeh Ramezanzadeh is the assistant director. The play had performances in Sweden, Russia, France, Portugal and Spain in the past.
“Fathers, Mothers and Children” is the third play to be staged in Italy. Mr Abbasi is the director of the play, which is performed by “Moj (Wave)” theater group.
The multinational play has actors from France, Italy and Russia, dealing with sociopolitical incidents in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian refuges, Kobani people and ISIS terrorists in Europe. Ladan Mostofi, who was going to be the only Iranian actress of the play, could not take the visa to Italy. The play will be staged without her, who was going to play the parts in Persian. The parts are taken out.
