Sad Widows of Lord of War & Old Blade to Be Published

A Play in Bookshops after 37 Reviews

Mohammad Yar-Ahmadi will publish “Sad Widows of the Lord of the War” and “Old Blade”.

Mohammad Yar-Ahmadi said that he was reviewing his plays, which were going to be published in one book.

“I have written these plays over the past years,” he told irantheater.ir. “Although the plays have to be performed in different forms, they have common language.”

“Old Blade,” Mr Yar-Ahmadi said, was one of my old plays, which was published by Ghatreh Publishing House once.

He explained that the distribution of the play was a failure so he had decided to agree with the play to be republished by Aavaj Publishing House.

“Old Blade”, which its story dates back to 1950s, depicts the dictatorship and suppression of that period when intellectuals, politicians and pundits were under pressure. The family relationships and deep emotional bonds is also depicted as a political activist has to choose between his family and political ideas.

Mr Yar-Ahmadi said that the play was the story of Dr Farzam, a political activist living in 1950s and 1960s who is under then regime’s surveillance because of his relations with foreigners following 1953 Iranian coup d’etat.

“Sad Widows of the Lord of the War” was written years ago and was staged several times, he said.

“I attended most of the performances and noticed many points that led to review the play 37 times,” Mr Yar-Ahmadi said. “It is the story of a bunch of opportunists who did not value the society they live in and lead it into evil and deceit. But the deception will not last.”

Mr Yar-Ahmadi, who heads the Playwrights Association of Iran, said that talks were underway to perform Armenian plays in Iran and vis-à-vis.

“The association has decided to translate and publish Armenian plays in Persian and Persian plays in Armenian,” he said and added that the decision was failed in the past due to lack support.

“But the plan will be executed soon thanks to the supportby the Dramatics Art Centre and plays will be staged either in state-run or private theater halls,” he said.
