Massoud Delkhan Evaluating Razavi Theater Festival
Theater Festival Must Be a Yearlong Event

One of the advantages of theater festivals in different cities is that residents of different regions of the country can get familiar with the art, which might be unknown to them before. Of course, Khorasan (where Razavi Theater Festival will take place) has always been a cradle of theater in Iran since ancient times and many Iranian theater artists are originated from that province.
Massoud Delkhah, a theater professor, said that the impact of any festival in different regions of the country would depend on its targets and approaches.
“I do not think it is needed for Razavi Theater Festival to become international. It can remain regional and go on its activities and have positive impacts,” Mr Delkhah told irantheater.ir.
The director of “Stranger” added that there was no need for all festivals to be held in Tehran and hosting of such events by other cities would be positive.
“Participation of professional and renowned theater artists gives credit to such festivals. The professionals can encourage people to get interested in theater,” he explained and added that such festivals should stay away of propaganda and avoid giving advice, especially to the younger generation.
The most important demand of participants of any festival from the official was that they had a chance to perform their plays publicly, Mr Delkhah said. “Various festivals such as month theater, women theater, physically impaired theater and … should give the artists a chance to have public performance. This inspires the artists otherwise holding festival are useless.”
“Festivals are also responsible to pay due attention to financial issues. The thing that they are a weeklong event will not help theater a lot. They can be influential if their impacts extend to whole a year,” he stressed.
