Tehran to Host Giant Puppets

Farnaz Behzadi, a puppet show director and designer of marionettes, will have two plays at Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Puppet Festival, featuring large-scale marionettes.

Farnaz Behzadi told irantheater.ir that she decided to have two outdoor plays using giant puppets in the festival.

The huge puppets will travel to Tehran soon to be ready to perform, she added.

Two five-minute plays “White Giant & Rostam” and “Simorgh, Zal and Roudabeh” will be performed several times at the festival. Sohelia Bajelan, director of the studio, performers, who operate the giant puppets and were headed by Majid Bourbour, would accompany the puppets, Ms Behzadi said.

Ms Behzadi said that Hamidreza Ardalan, a noted designed of giant puppets, would perform a play at the festival.

On where the giant puppets would perform, she said that it would possibly take place in the area surrounding the City Theater because the huge marionettes were kept in safes with dimensions 100*150 cm.

The project to make large-scale puppets was started in the southern city of Abadan, she said and added that French marionette makers would watch the third phase of the project soon.

Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Puppet Festival will take place in the capital on August 22-28.
