A Puppet Show with Novel Techniques

Ebrahim Shakeri: Workshops Positive

“The History of Era”, which is written and directed by Ebrahim Shakeri, is among the participants of the stage section of the Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Puppet Festival. This young director will stage his piece by using new techniques.

Ebrahim Shakeri, who has written and directed “The History of Era” told irantheater.ir that the story of the play would happen inside a book and he had pop-up book technique in mind when writing the play.

“The story begins with a man who decides to steal a book. But he is tempted to turn the pages of the book. With every page he turns, a new thing happens to him,” he said. “He decides to turn pages to the end of the book but he faces a man who is living in the book and is attacked.”

On why he used pop-up book technique, he said it had attraction for him because his play had numerous characters.

“I have never seen anyone using this technique and am hopeful I can perform it well,” Mr Shakeri said, adding that a narrator would tell the story as the play had many puppets.

The young director said the he was taking part in the festival for the first time and believed it was positive for him.

“I am hopeful to be able to have public performance for my show as promised by the secretary of the festival (Marzieh Boroumand),” Mr Shakeri said. “I studied dramatic art in the university and has taken part in student festivals. But the international puppet festival has been a good experience for me and members of Doll House have assisted me kindly whenever I needed.”

Shakeri praised the festival for its educational approach as the young artists coming from other cities could benefit from workshops of the event in which professional artists of the field teach.

The festival will take place in Tehran on August 22-28. Marzieh Boroumand is the secretary.
