The press conference of Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Puppet Festival was held in the conference hall of the City Complex. Marzieh Boroumand, the secretary of the festival, Payman Shariati, executive secretary of the festival and director of the City Theater, Kayvan Nakhaei, the director of the public relations office of the Dramatic Arts Center, Armaghan Behdarvand, head of the Association of Dramatic Arts attended the conference.
Ms Boroumand said that the works to prepare for the festival started sooner this year compared to the previous editions.
The admitted groups were chosen in three stages following a call for the festival, she said, adding that the festival tried to financially support and give advises by top puppetry experts to all groups in Tehran and other cities.
“The theater groups are facing numerous problems, which is beyond the ability of the Dramatic Arts Center to solve some of them,” Ms Boroumand said, according to irantheater.ir.
She regretted that the festival should do the responsibilities assigned to the science ministry, the national youth organization and the children and young adults bodies single-handedly because they did not do their jobs well.
“On the other hand, the privatization has multiplied the problems because the private amphitheaters do not welcome the rehearsal and public performance of the puppet shows,” Ms Boroumand added.
She said that the festival would inaugurate on August 22 with a joyful street carnival. “We hope the people to welcome it enthusiastically and a reconciliation between people and puppets would occur.”
She said that the number of the theater groups interested to participate in the festival. Some 28 plays in the stage section, 16 in the outdoor section and nine countries in the international section are set to take part in the festival.
“Of course the festival will have some special guests. The most important of them is Behrouz Gharibpour with “Sa’di”.
Payman Shariati, the executive secretary of the festival, referred to the groups, who were not admitted. “We are trying to make it possible for them to have public performance.”
