New Auditorium of Theater House Awaits Fund

Former Theater House Director Iraj Rad said that the new headquarters is ready for a long time. An auditorium is built it first floor and other related works such as furniture, tables and conference tables are purchased too, he said, irantheater.ir reported.

“Most of my time is devoted to the auditorium now. Most works such as making it acoustic, installing the cables and air conditioners and …are done…All safeties and aesthetic aspects are respected while we are busy with flooring now. It is made of wood and naturally it takes time to be ready. We hope this stage will be accelerated,” Me Rad explained.

He hoped that the stage would finish soon and the audio/visual works to get started within the next three months.

“Unfortunately, we are short of budget for this,” he said and added, “We have done some communications and received promises but it is not clear whether we would receive the financial assistance. Of course they have not said we would not get the budget. We are still hopeful.”

On the challenges of making the new building ready, Mr Rad explained that it was the result of ten years of efforts by all members of theater family in the country.

“The owner of everything in the building from the construction materials to the furniture is Theater House,” he said. “Many bodies suggested us to finish the work within three to four years but share the ownership with us but we did not accept to ensure the independency of Theater House.”

The money spent on construction of the new building was unbelievable, the veteran theater artist said, adding that over 32bn rials was spent on a 361 sq meter land for the building to be built using the best construction materials.

“Both our advocates and criticizers were astonished by seeing the building, which was constructed with this amount of money,” he said.
