Puppet Show Hangout in City Theater

The outdoor space of Tehran’s City Theater will host puppet shows for children concurrent with Tehran-Mobarak International Puppet Festival on August 22-28.

Afsaneh Zamani, director of the hangout, said that such programs were modeled after the traditional/ritual theater festival, which had helped create an environment where the Iranian children with traditional pieces. It was welcomed by the families, she added.

“The concern of the secretary of the puppet festival is puppetry for children,” Zamani said. “Therefore it was planned to consider a space for children and families to watch the puppet shows and cooperate in formation of a dramatic piece.”

In addition to the puppet shows, she added, workshops would be launched where puppet making, origami, storytelling, creative shows would be taught to children, irantheater.ir reported.

Ms Zamani explained that different storytelling type would be told to the children every day and children would take part in the story to understand the function of each puppet. 

The director of “National” and “Three Piglets” said that the stories of Shahnameh and Iranian myths and fairy tales, historical and religious stories would be used for the shows.

“This will help children to get familiar with Iranian stories,” she stressed.

A stage would also be set up to have a puppet show on the environment and clean air in which children would participate, she said.

Ms Zamani called on families to bring their children to the hangout, which would take place from August 22 to 28 every day at 17:30.
