Director of Puppet Hangout:

Education of New Generation Main Target

Director of Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Theater Festival said that the puppet shows would have a good audience in the future if the children were educated with the features of this style of theater.

Afsaneh Zamani told irantheater.ir that one of the problems facing the puppetry in Iran was that everybody supposes it was only for children while that was not right. “We have been trying in puppet hangout to educate a generation, which is not stranger with puppet,” she added.

“It was suggested by Ms [Marzieh] Boroumand, the secretary of the festival, to have puppet hangout for children given my experience with a hangout for traditional and ritual theater for kids,” Ms Zamani said. “We launched a hangout for children in the outdoor space surrounding the City Theater. It is welcomed by kids and their families where children learn on puppet making and methods of puppetry.”

On the side programs of the festival, Ms Zamani said that Ms Boroumand was willing to have a meeting per night where domestic and foreign participants and guests would meet and had a place to share experience.

Such meetings include play reading seccions, she said and added that two such a sessions were held where two plays for puppets shows were read.

“Fortunately, such meetings have turned out good,” she said.
