Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Tehran mayor, named an auditorium in Pardis Tehran Theater after renowned theater director and actor Davoud Rashidi who passed away this month at the age of 83.
The closing ceremony of the 5th City Theater Festival was held in Pardis Tehran Theater on Tuesday with the participation of a group of artists and officials, irantheater.ir reported.
Ehsan Karami was the presenter of the gathering which was started with the speech of Mahmoud Salahi, deputy Tehran mayor and head of Tehran Municipality’s Cultural and Artistic Organization.
He thanked the Cultural Development Organization for its effort to launch an advanced theater venue after a few years, which would inaugurate concurrent with the 36th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Feb 1-11.
Salahi said that Pardis Tehran Theater Complex extends over 30,000 square meters with a built-in-area of 8,000 meters and 10 theater auditoriums. It has a spacious 15,00-seat hall, four black-box like spaces of 120 to 150 seats, a 150-seat movie theater and an outdoor hall.
Turning to the festival, Mr Salahi said that 217 out of 1270 groups were admitted to the event which had over 200 performances in 13 auditoriums within the past week.
On the commemoration of veteran artists during each edition of the festival, he said that the festival paid tribute to Mahmoud Ostad Mohammad, Esmail Khalaj, Ali Nasirian, Davoud Rashidi respectively over the past fourth editions. He added that the fifth edition commemorated a woman and a man artist Maryam Motaref and Akbar Zanjanpour, respectively to respect the right of women who had been involved in theater.
Reza Fayyazi, a noted theater director and actor, praised Ms Motaref for her theater activities while Qotbeddin Sadeghi paid tribute to Mr Zanjanpour.
Meanwhile, Tehran mayor, Mr Qalibaf, apologized the young and veteran theater artists for shortage of theater infrastructure in the capital, which deprive a major section of the young population of tapping talent. He extended his hands towards artists to help municipality to develop the infrastructure in the field of art and culture.
He criticized some officials who had been in charge for levelling their unfair judgements on him instead of seeing their own failures.
Marzieh Boroumand, a veteran puppet artist, delivered speech later, thanking Mr Qalibaf for helping the field by promising to open a puppet house. “One of the reason, I want you retain your job as Tehran mayor is that the land in which “Puppet House” will be built needs your assistance.”
Ms Boroumand, the secretary of Tehran-Mobarak 16th International Puppet Theater Festival, said that death of Mr Rashid happened in a tough period but you were besides us at that time.
“I hope you will stay healthy and remain Tehran mayor to fulfill the last wish of the late Davoud Rashidi, which was building an auditorium adjacent to Sangelaj Theater,” she said.
In reaction to Ms Boroumand’s demand, Mr Qalibaf named one of the auditorium of Pardis Tehran Theater Complex after Davoud Rashidi.
