Street Theater Festival in Border Marivan City Shows Iran Safety

Director of the Dramatic Arts Center of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance said that one of the points of Marivan Street Theater Festival was that the border city and the region was safe as it is hosting numerous Iranian and foreign artists.

Mehdi Shafiei said that the ministry was committed to allocate the budget of the 11th Marivan Street Theater Festival on time, irantheater.ir quoted the official news agency IRNA as saying.

Speaking at the press conference of the festival, he stressed that each province should have separate financial credit for be able to hold such festivals as good as possible and such events to grow in other provinces too.

The five-day Marivan Street Theater Festival will open on Sunday in the border city in Kurdistan province.  

Mr Shafiei said that the festival could host more various and outstanding productions in the next years given that Marivan could accommodate larger participants.

"We should not restrict festival to street theater and should include other genres and styles of theater to the event," he said. "It was believed in the past the cities are recognized with their potentials, natural capacities, outstanding buildings and mansions. But a smart urban management is thinking of injecting the spirit into the body of the city.

"None of the art is as capable as theater to inject life into the soul of the urban environment as theater," he opined and praised Marivan for being such a dynamic and lively city.

The official described Kurdistan province as having a special status in Iran theater because it had great theater professors and teaches as well as robust associations and active artists.

Shafiei stressed that theater was not limited to holding festivals and public performances could help artists to establish a constant relationship with audience.
