Marvivan Festival Opens in Shano Park

11th Marivan International Street Theater Festival

The 11th Marivan International Street Theater Festival opened on Sunday.

The festival was inaugurated by "Kouch" Group performance a guest piece from Khorramshahr Resistance Festival as well as a group of Kurdistan province executive officials, domestic and foreign artists and people of Marivan, irantheater.ir reported.

Marivan governor said that artistic events including theater could play role in changing the behavior of the people.

Mohammad Fallahi added that artistic events, which could connect to the common people, would attract them more to institutionalize the culture.

Marivan Theater Festival and participation of artists from various regions of the country has played an important role in identifying cultural and tourism attractions of the city, Mr Fallahi explained.

"The people of this city have special interest in the dramatic arts. Several pieces on different topics such as environment are performed in this city throughout the year," Marivan governor said and thanked Kurdistan executive officials, artists and locals for taking part in the event.

Executive secretary of the festival, Khosrow Moeenafshar, said that over 270 domestic and foreign pieces were submitted to the secretariat of the festival of which 25 are admitted by the supervision board.

The festival hosts 270 artists in 28 groups from various provinces and three foreign groups from Italy, Armenia and Iraq's Kurdistan, he added.

Ataollah Koupal, a theater academic, Behrouz Gharibpour, theater director, and Saeed Asadi, secretary of various Fadjr international theater festivals, are the jury members.

A workshop from Poland will be held on the sideline of the festival.

Moeenafshar said that the performances would take place in Zaribar Lake Park, Shano Park, Mellat Park, Soldier Square, Imam Khomeini Square and Nay Village.

Aram Saedmouchi, a graphic designer from Sanandaj, has designed the poster of the festival, which will wrap up on Friday on the shores of Zaribar Lake. Culture minister will attend the closing ceremony.
