Director and writer of "Commander" broke the silence about motivations behind performing the piece in front of children of commanders who were martyred during Iran's Sacred Defense against Saddam Hussein invasion (1980-1988).
Nader Borhani-Marand, director and writer of "Commander" addressed the audience on the 9th day of the performance, saying that the night was very important for him and the cast because media persons asked me "a cliché question", which he had avoided responding it so far. "But there are some dear guests among the audience tonight and I am going to explain why I staged "commander."
He added that he attended a festival in Belarus a few years ago where all theater groups paid tribute to the unknown soldiers, which was so splendid that could not be described in words, irantheater.ir reported.
"What I had seen first was magnificent. Remains of a city that it was said eight soldiers and their commander battled for it not to fall. This is while four persons stay in a square-like area there to commemorate and respect the soldiers. The place does not remain empty of humans ever," Borhani-Marand said.
"The memory of that splendor and respect influenced me so much that I wished we could pay such a tribute to the mottos of commanders of the eight-year Sacred Defense," he argued and added that there were the periods that "I witnessed how the wives of martyr Hemmat and martyr Bakeri were insulted. I told myself Belarusians pay such a respect to their soldiers and commanders who protected a city for just eight days. What do we do to commemorate the commanders who stood for this land for eight years in our beloved country?" the director questioned.
Elsewhere, Borhani-Marand said that he promised himself to write about commanders of war whenever he could. "Now "commander" is the fruit of that encounter and I hope it would be welcomed by you."
Mehdi Hemmat, son of martyr Mohammad-Ebrahim Hemmat, Davoud Karimi, son of martyr Abbas Karimi, Mehdi Dastvareh, son of martyr Reza Dastvareh, Ali Keshvari, son of martyr Ahmad Keshvari, Abouzar Shiroudi, son of marty Ali-Akbar Shiroudi, were the guests who watched "Commander" with other audience.
"Commander" is on stage every day at 19:30. Hedayat Hashemi, Nasim Adabi, Ahmad Kavari, Neda Kouhi, Seyyed Ali Salehi, Fereydoun Mehrabi, Hossein Pakdel, Nahid Moslemi and Mirtaher Mazloumi play in the piece.
