Iran, Syria & Lebanon to Have Joint Theater Cooperation

The second day of the Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian countries closed as director general of Iran Dramatic Arts Center, Contemporary Arts Development Institute’s managing director and directors of Syria’s and Lebanon’s theater met on ways to have theater cooperation.

Mehdi Afzali, managing director of Contemporary Arts Development Institute, expressed satisfaction over the participation of directors of Syria’s and Lebanon’s theater in the meeting, irantheater.ir reported.

Iran was proud of having friendly relationships with Syria and Lebanon and would stand by them, he said and added that the country would feel more committed to these two countries today more than before as they had been targeted by “the Western invasion”.

“Military apparatus will do their job in the military aspect and our job is the cultural diplomacy to soften the society,” Mr Afzali said.

Director general of Iran Dramatic Arts Center, Mehdi Shafiei, said that cultural cooperation with Syria and Lebanon had always been a priority for Iran.

He expressed the country’s readiness to have performances, set up educational workshops and cultural weeks in Syria and Lebanon as well as mobile theater performances in Syria.

Zoher Ramadan, Syrian theater official and Ali Farahat, Lebanon’s theater director of culture ministry, also talked about taste of theater audience in both countries.
