Mohammad Yaghoubi: Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asia Important

Theater of Regional Countries Not Known

Mohammad Yaghoubi, renowned Iranian director, regretted that the knowledge about theater of regional countries was poor and such meetings would help increase such knowledge.

Mohammad Yaghoubi, the noted theater director who has worked in various countries, particularly in Canada and Iran as well as play writing, said that the meeting was positive. “It is a pity that we know of theater in the US and Europe more than that of the regional countries. We know of theater in Europe and the US more than Asia.”

On the most important agreement that could be reached in the meeting, Yaghoubi said, was that plays of artists of the participating West Asian countries would be published in other countries.

He reminded that Iran and Armenia associations of playwrights reached a memorandum of understandings to translate and publish plays in one another’s countries. Although the government did not support publishing Armenian plays, it is hoped the plays of West Asian countries will be published in Iran.

Yaghoubi hoped that the meeting would bear fruits and be positive rather than being a propaganda and formality.

Tehran is hosting the Meeting of Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian Countries, which opened on Monday. The gathering will wrap up on Tuesday.
