West Asian Countries to Attend Marivan Street Festival to Join Huge Audience

Fateh Baadparva talked about the importance of Marivan Street Theater Festival and its influence on the neighboring countries at the Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian Countries.
Fateh Baadparva, Kurdistan theater artists, said at the Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian Countries on Monday that residents of the border city of Marivan had managed to place Marivan International Street Theater on a good status after 22 years of hosting the event. The festival was formed thanks to reliance on the triangle of artists, audience and officials in a city, which is located on Zarivar Lake and a population of 150,000, irantheater.ir reported.
On the history of the festival, Baadparva said that Marivan culture and Islamic guidance department organized the festival after eight years of Iran-Iraq war (1980-88) in the war-stricken city, which borders Iraq with the cooperation of the Dramatic Arts Center. The festival, he added, was hold eight years as a provincial and regional event and 11 editions as international.
Domestic and international participants of the festival have been stressing that Marivan citizens are among the best theater audience of Iran where women, children and men watch street shows every year, Mr Baadparvar said, adding that each piece was watched by an audience of 300 to 2,000 people.
He added that the festival had so far hosted pieces from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, US, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Iraq. “West Asian countries can connect with a huge audience if they take part in the festival.”
The festival has been the top specialized street theater event of Iran with a slogan of security, peace and calm, the theater artist stressed.
Tehran is hosting Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian Countries. The event, opened on Monday, will wrap up today.
