Iranian Director Meets Azerbaijan Theater Official

Dr Lalayev: Ebrahim Poshtekouhi a Treasure

Dr Algismat Lalayev, director of Azerbaijan Musical Performances met visiting Ebrahim Poshtekouhi, Iranian director in the Azerbaijan Republic, seeing him as a treasure. He suggested financial support to Mr Poshtekouhi, who was visiting Baku’s theater and attending a conference on contemporary theater, for making pieces.

Ebrahim Poshtekouhi, the author and director of “The World’s Last Pomegranate” visited the Azerbaijan Republic upon an invitation by the Azeri theater official, Dr Algismat Lalayev.

Mr Lalayev promised to sponsor a piece to be made by Mr Poshtekouhi in his country, irantheater.ir reported. It was decided Mr Poshtekouhi to begin making a piece in Baku with Azeri actors since Norouz (New Year holiday to start March 21, 2017).

Mr Lalayev was in Tehran last week to attend the three-day Meeting of General Directors of Performing Arts of West Asian Countries. He watched “The World’s Last Pomegranate” with other theater officials from the West Asian countries. The Azeri official invited Mr Poshtekouhi then to pay a visit to the Azerbaijan Republic.

“The World’s Last Pomegranate” is being performed in Sayeh auditorium of the City Theater from October 16. The piece was warmly welcomed by the audience, making the cast to start having two performances at 17:30 and 19:30 each night until November 11.

Mr Poshtekouhi is a renowned name in Iran’s experimental theater. He is one of the few Iranian directors, who has not grown up in Tehran but his pieces have lost of fans in the capital. He is hailed from the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas. The traces of his hometown are seen in his works. Mr Poshtekouhi received the best playwright award by Iran Association of Playwrights in 2000. His theater group is named Ti Touk Nanam.

His pieces include “Purgatory”, “Lour Man”, “When We Come Back, There Are the Two Hanging Feet Left”, “Aali and Fati”, “My Beloved Is Asleep”, “The History of Suppression” and “Only the First Dog Knows Why He Barks” (top theater of 29th Fadjr International Theater Festival”.
