Navid Izadyar, Author of “Sleep Walker”:

Play Writing Competition an Opportunity for Identification of Unknown Talents

Navid Izadyar, writer of “Sleep Walker”, talked to irantheater.ir about the function and details of the festival.

Navid Izadyar, writer of “Sleep Walker” whose play was read on the first day of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival said that the section could be held concurrent with the festival, which was better.

Izadyar, who has so far published “Tulip Apartments”, “Curtain” and “Wednesday”, praised the management of Mr Akbarnejad and other organizers of the section, helping everything to be held in a professional and organized way.

He said that the critics who were selected to critize the plays could help improve the quality of play-reading sessions.

The play reading sessions, which had gained momentum in Iran in recent years, were planned for playwrights to introduce their new plays to their readers but tickets were sold for such sessions in Iran due to the general condition of the economy of theatre, Mr Izadyar noted.

Mr Izadyar said that the sessions had advantages and disadvantages. Each writer would like the audience to listen to his play, which was read by professional actors while the competition of the Fadjr Theater Festival would give the playwright a chance his play to be read by experts and be subjected to scrutiny by them, he explained.

The young playwright added that the most important characteristic of this competition of the festival was that it would give a chance to less known playwrights to read their works for the audience and the critics, which was particularly important for authors who live in small cities and towns.

The top ten plays of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival are being read in Mashahir Hall of the City Theater since Sunday. The event will continue until tomorrow.
