4th Day of Reading Top Plays of 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival

Wheel, a Nostalgic Picture of 1980s

The seventh session of reading top plays of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival took place at Mashahir Hall of the City Theater on Wednesday. “Wheel”, which is written by Mohsen Azimi, was read by the author.

Mohsen Azimi read his play “Wheel” on the seventh session of reading top plays of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival in Mashahir Hall of the City Theater, irantheater.ir reported.

It seems the quality of reading of plays during these sessions was not important and groups did not have a performance approach towards the plays. The quality of many readings was poor. Some groups were just agreed to read the plays a few hours before the performance.

However, the reading of “Wheel” started in a different ambience. The author was preparing the needed facilities for his performance, fixing the speakers and airing music from his cell phone. He was easily biting an apple while trying to establish a friendly connection with the audience as it is seen in the audience-oriented pieces. He was also trying to broadcast music tracks of the 1980s and 1990s to create a nostalgic environment for the audience.

When Mr Azimi was asked to star the reading, he said that let him to reach music tracks of the old past when everybody felt good. When the music reached the tracks that remined the audience of a nostalgic feeling, Mr Azimi began reading “wheel”. All characters are read by him. The play is the story of a family in 1980s. The main characters are two kids who make the ambience of the play. But the story is told by Mohsen, 36, who is the writer himself. A kid who has left with a broken femur and had to be in whole body plaster. There are other characters too like a mother which have to quarrel with the friends of her son not to persuade him to move.

Mohsen Azimi says, “I wanted to take you to the good old past days when everybody felt good…”

“Wheel” is a play on nostalgic period of 1980s, which is situation- rather than story-oriented.

Rafiq Nosrati criticized the play after the reading, saying that the play had drama and character making problems.
