Submit Posters by December 15 to Compete at Fadjr Int’l Theater Fest

Director of poster competition section of the Fadjr International Theater Festival named the jury members, calling on interested artists to submit posters not later than December 15.
Ebrahim Hosseini told the public relations office of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival on Monday that Ghobad Shiva, Majid Kashani & Maziar Tehrani are named to judge the section.
He explained that the posters must date back to a period of December 15, 2015 to December 15, 2016, adding that the winners would be announced on the closing ceremony of the festival. An exhibition of the selected works would be held in the Artists Forum concurrent with the festival.
Ghobad Shiva was born in 1940. He is a member of the Society of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and an honorary member of Iran Graphic Designers Association. He holds a master’s degree from New York’s Pratt University.
Mr Shiva was one of the co-founders of Iran Graphic Designer Society and the Iranian Graphic Art Biennale. This paragraph in Encyclopedia Britannica shows the importance of Mr Shiva for Iran graphic design.
“In the Middle East, graphic designers often applied new technology to depictions of traditional subject matter and iconography. Throughout the late 20th century, Iranian graphic designer Ghobad Shiva evoked the colour palette, traditional Arabic calligraphy, and page layouts of ancient Persian manuscripts in his graphic work, which ranged from packaging to advertising and editorial design to stage sets. His poster (1984) celebrating the 800th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Iranian poet Saadi, for example, displays his exquisite control of colour and his ability to create a vibrant image. These stylized illustrations continued the traditions of ancient Persian manuscript books, but within the context of a contemporary design idiom.”
Maziar Tehrani, a graphic designer and university professor and art director, was born in 1976. He graduated from Islamic Azad University. He has designed several cultural posters in the field of theater, cinema, music and art and cultural festivals since 2011.
Born in 1978, Majid Kashani teaches at the university. He is a graduate of graphic from Tarbiate Modares University (Instructors Training University). He also holds a bachelor degree in graphic from Tehran University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. He was a member of board of directors of Iran Poster Designers Society and has had cooperation with many news media and galleries as graphic designer.
The festival will take place in Tehran on Jan 20-31. Saeed Asadi is the secretary of the festival.
