Mahdi Shafee: Hamedan to Remain Hosting Festival If Province Volunteers

Director General of Dramatic Arts Center Mahdi Shafiee said that secretary of 24th International Children & Young Adults Theater Festival would be appointed soon, adding that Hamedan would continue to host the festival if the province was keen on it.

Mahdi Shafiee said on the sideline of the closing ceremony of the festival on Saturday that the quality of domestic and foreign plays was good and families welcomed the festival warmly, irantheater.ir reported.

“If Hamedan has enthusiasm to host the festival in the future, there would be no place better than the city,” he said. “If we feel the enthusiasm for hosting the festival is growing low in the province, we would definitely consider another city to organize the festival for it would be able to go on growth,” the official added.

Mr Shafiee had earlier in a press conference in Tehran about the festival expressed concern about the event being hosted in Hamedan.

The official stressed that the enthusiasm of audience and families was high in Hamedan and the festival had reached a place, which could be able to improve its infrastructure in Hamedan.

But, he regretted, the support for improving theater venues of the province had been weak in the province despite the relentless efforts by his colleagues.

The official said that the next secretary of the festival would be appointed soon considering that the center had adopted a policy to have a stability in management of festivals.

Such policy had helped the festival grow, he said, expressing hope that the secretariat and secretary of the festival would retain the job for the next edition too, he explained.

Mr Shafee elaborated that talks were underway for Shahram Karami (the secretary of 23rd festival) to retain the portfolio.

The 23rd International Children & Young Adults Theater Festival closed in Hamedan yesterday.
