Fadjr Theater Festival Can Be a Launchpad for Photographers

Sayfollah Samadian, a jury member of photo competition of the Fadjr International Theater Festival, said that the festival can become a launch pad for photographers of theater.

Sayfollah Samadian, photographer and documentary maker, said that the photos taken by photographers could record moments of efforts of theater troupes, adding that a photographer should think first about how he/she could record the history of theater in Iran rather than technical aspects of his/her photography.

As a jury member of photo section of the festival, Mr Samadian said that views of all crew members of a piece including director, lighting designer and … must be seen during photography for having superb photos of the show. That would be the moment that could be said a photographer accomplished his/her job perfectly, he said.

On impacts of good pictures on a theater piece, he said that a good photographer could present the efforts of a dramatic group to the audience very well not to mention the role it plays in the ticket sale of a show.

On the role that the Fadjr festival plays in encouraging active theater photographers, Mr Samadian argued that a photo exhibition in the Fadjr Theater Festival would be an effective starting point in the career of photographers of the field, who were trying to record the history of Iran theater.

He criticized the changed in the management of the Fadjr festival, saying that guidelines should be drafted for not to see annual changes in the officials of the event.

“We should not forget that all the currents are linked to each other like chains in the festival. Photographers should also know which kind of approach they should deal in the festival and be able to submit works,” he explained.

35th Fadjr International Theater Festival will take place in Tehran from January 20 to 31. Saeed Asadi is the secretary of the festival.
