The birthday of Iran’s legendary stage and screen director and author, Bahram Beyzaei, was celebrated in a ceremony in which his “1001st Night” was read.
Concurrent with the birthday of Bahram Beyzaei, “1001st Night” was read with direction of Hadi Sorouri in Mashahir Hall of the City Theater of Tehran yesterday evening, irantheater.ir reported.
Naser Taghvaei, great cinema director, was guest of honor at the ceremony, which was attended by the art and culture community who delivered speeches to commemorate internationally-known Iranian theater figure Bahram Beyzaei.
Following the reading of “1001st Night”, Mr Taghvaei said that as Nima Youshij opened a new chapter in Iran modern poetry and cinema had grown with the artists of his generation including Mr Beyzaei and him. Mr Beyzaei found his way in theater and concentrated on theater and writing, he added.
“He is an articulate writer who knows contemporary and ancient history of Iran very well contrary to many of us,” Mr Taghvaei gushed about Mr Beyzaei, hoping that the playwright, who left Iran for the US a few years ago, would come back and could work in Iran again.
Golab Adineh, actress, said that works of Beyzaei would expand the potentials of the actors and his dialogues were like an ocean in which the actors can swim flawlessly.
She also wished Mr Beyzaei to return to Iran.
Shahla Lahiji, the director of Women and Illuminators Publishing House, said that the masterpieces of Mr Beyzaei had influenced women a lot as women had been the leading character of his works. Mr Beyzaei started his career as a time that women were regarded as side characters and the heroes were male villains, she added.
Authors like Beyzaei pioneered a wave, which had changed the condition for women for better, Ms Lahiji said. He and his fellow colleagues shifted the approach towards women in their works, leading to change in the approach of the society towards women, she added.
Following the speeches, Hadi Sorouri had the birthday cake of Mr Beyzaei to be cut in the absence of him with the attendance of Naser Taghvaei, his wife actress Marzieh Vafamehr and noted stage actress Golab Adineh.
Behzad Farahani, Ahmad Masjed-Jamei, Shirin Bina, Fahimeh Rahimnia, Payman Shariati and Jahanbakhsh Soltani attended the ceremony as guests.
“1001st Night” was directed by Hadi Sorouri after he sought permission and coordinated with Bahram Beyzaei. Masoumeh Azizmohammadi, Shima Janqorban, Hadi Sorouri read the characters. Saber Allahdadian played tabnour and tar (traditiona string instruments), Iman Mousazadeh nay and tonbak, spring and daf.
