250 Pieces Submitted to Fadjr International Theater Festival
20 Shows to Screen in International Section

Mehrdad Rayani-Makhsous, director of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival for international affairs, said that 20 pieces from 12 countries would take part in the event.
Mehrdad Rayani-Makhsous told festival’s public relations that pieces from Spain, France, Iraq, Turkey, Georgia, Poland, the Netherlands, the Switzerland, Bulgaria, Greece, Japan and co-production of Iran and India will participate in the festival. Over 250 pieces were submitted to take part in the festival of them 20 from 12 countries are chosen, he added.
Mr Rayani said that the number of submitted works to the international section had grown significantly compared to the previous edition, describing it as “unprecedented” because the festival had not seen participation of 20 international pieces in recent years.
On criteria for choosing the final participants, the university professor said that the festival was looking for pieces who could meet demand of artists firstly and the common audience secondly. Also, it was seeking diversification in performances.
The theater director said that science is developing and theater should be updated with the pace. “Basically, pieces have been chosen to move in line with the global society and have novel approaches,” he said and added, “Of course, there are pieces with classic methods of performances for the taste of the common audience.”
He stressed that the international section of the festival would give the artists and students of theater, who cannot see international pieces, to watch such works from different countries.
The 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival will be held in Tehran from January 2o to January 31.
