Ebrahim Haghighi to Iran Theater:

Visual Identity, a Primary Medium of Theater Troupes

Ebrahim Haghighi, a jury member of visual identity of Fadjr International Theater Festival says a theater troupe, should it has been formed properly or has a manifest or looking for future, sees visual identity as its primary medium.

Ebrahim Haghighi, graphic designer, photographer and art director, is a jury member of visual identity section of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival. He is set to judge the section along with Amrollah Farhadi and Alireza Mostafazadeh Ebrahimi, irantheater.ir reported.

He described visual identity, which sets a direct link between theater troupe and graphic designer, as highlighting individual charachteristics of any person, creature, product or company by a graphic designer.

Mr Ebrahimi added that one of the functions of graphic was defining an independent identity for a topic, product or institute. A theater troupe was no exception to this definition, he stressed.

But, he said, to have an independent identity, a theater troupe must have a clear definition of its visual identity. “Teamwork does not mean getting together of some people to perform a theater piece and then separating from each other.”

The graphic designer said that if a theater troupe had a correct definition or had intention, manifest and look into the future, it should primarily think about having a visual identity.

“For instance when an infant is born, he will covered in blanket to get warm. Then he needs clothing in the first two weeks but he will find a name and identity later. Every theater troupe is like an infant. They need visual identity, which is designed by graphic designers,” Mr Ebrahimi elaborated.

On importance of the section, he said that it was called consistent visual identity, adding that it was decided in the beginning that the section had a title, a sign and tag cloud for its audience to recognize it in the future editions of the festival.

The veteran graphic designer said one of the priorities of the judgement in the section was that the visual identity would be in line with the needs of a troupe as groups which work on children pieces differ from those performing comedy or traditional shows. The other criteria was its aesthetic aspects of a design, he added.
